ABSTRACT

Importance factors in structural design codes of Vietnam and other foreign countries (pp.3-8)

Dr. Cao Duy Khoi

Importance class of buildings and constructions is required in structural calculation according to common design approach in the world. In order to account for the importance of the constructions, two type of information are needed: classification of constructions and value of corresponding importance factors. This Article will summarize the methods which account for the importance of constructions in structural design in accordance with the standards system of the United States, Russia, Europe and Vietnam, from the view point of practical design. The draw some comments and suggestions to be noted when reviewing Vietnamese design standard system.

An algorithm for solving the basic equation of the interval finite element method (pp.9-15)

Dr. LE CONG DUY, Eng. DANG HONG LONG

This paper presents an algorithm for solving the basic equation of the finite element method-displacements model, with interval input parameters. The algorithm is established by the basic operations of interval numbers and interval-optimization method. A numerical example is applied for  frame structure in that elastic modulus, geometric dimensions and statics loads are interval numbers. Interval nodal displacements and axial forces output results have been compared with those of the solution by FEM-EBE mode computed in [2].

Thermal analysis of functionally graded material plates by finite element method (pp.16-22)

MEng.NGUYENTRI DUNG, Dr. DANG SY LAN

In this paper, the finite element formulation based on the first-order shear deformation theory has been presented to calculate displacements and stresses in functionally graded plates (FGM) under thermal and mechanical loads. Nine-node rectangular isoparametric elements with five degrees of freedoms per node have been used in modelling of FGM plates. Comparison of obtained numerical results with results in available literature has shown the realibility of the proposed algoritm and the program.

Experimental study on shear strengthening of concrete beams using glass fiber reinforced polymer sheets (pp.23-29)

Dr. NGUYEN HUNG PHONG

This paper presents an experimental study on shear strengthening of concrete beams using glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) sheets. Four identical beams were made, three of which were strengthened by different patterns of GFRP sheets. Results of the loading test of the beam specimens have shown that GFRP sheet not only increased the shear strength of the beams but also increased their stiffness and ductility. The debonding between GFRP sheets and concrete, the anchorage of the GFRP strips, the round-off radius of the corners and quality of concrete cover significantly influenced the strengthening effectiveness.

Magnesium phosphate binder for application in passive fire protection solutions(pp.30-39)

Eng. NGUYEN PHUOC VINH, Eng. NGUYEN HOANG, Eng. NGUYEN THANH NHAN, Dr. NGUYEN KHANH SON

The main objective is to study a solution of passive fire protection by using magnesium phosphate binder. The material could constitute fire door system, fire insulation for concrete/steel structural component or conduct of ventilation/smoke extraction, in high rise building and underground system. Phosphate magnesium binder consists of well-crystallized products K-struvite. The last one shows high resistancedurability and latent heat of dehydration reactionWe produced a composite between binder and 3 types offiller (glass fiber, fly ash, coarse sand). Considering the requirement of TCVN 9311-1-2012, temperature evolution by time T(t) after 30mm thickness of panel 150x150mm during fire test at laboratory scale shows appropriate for fire protection of structural element. We also discuss about feasibility of fireproofing material for the practical usage in construction works.

Calculation of piles under horizontal loading in interaction with ground (pp.40-46)

MEng. NGUYEN ANH DAN

When calculating pile foundations, many models that link between pile and ground have been used, in which working model reflects more accurately interaction between pile and ground simultaneously. This paper applies the finite element method combined with Winkler model to calculate the piles under horizotal loading simultaneously work with ground based on load – deformation curves and compare with current method.

Research Multibeam echo sounder and applications in the survey work in Viet Nam (pp.47-52)

MEng. PHAN VAN QUANG, MEng. DIEM CONG TRANG

This paper briefly introduces the principles of operation of the Multibeam echo sounder, the possibility of application of this technique in the survey of various projects in Vietnam such as: docks, ports, navigation channels in the river and in the sea; oil pipelines, gas pipelines; marine planning for resource protection, etc. Studies on the theory and experimental measurements showed that the application of machine multibeam echo sounder survey of the terrain ensured allowable error and bring good economic efficiency.

Research on Application of Design method by Russian Standard for Steel - Reinforced Concrete Beam into Vietnamese Standard (pp.53-62)

Dr. LE MINH LONG, Eng. QUACH THANH NAM

Currently, there is not any document to guide the design of steel - reinforced concrete beam according to Vietnam standard. This article introduces Russia’s design method for steel-reinforced concrete beam, which can be applied to the current Vietnamese standard.

Analysis and design for shear of bending reinforced concrete beams according to ACI 318, Eurocode 2 and TCVN 5574:2012 (pp.63-72)

Dr. PHUNG NGOC DUNG, MEng. LE THI THANH HA

Shear behaviour of a reinforced concrete beam subjected to bending is a complicated phenomenon. The provisions in design codes are mainly based on experimental studies. Aiming at giving a better understanding of behavior of RC beams under shear for students, designers and researchers, many fundamental studies on the behavior of RC beams have been revised. This article will introduce one of those revisions: a comparison of designing vertical links of RC beams based on 5574, ACI and EC2.
