ABSTRACT
Introduction to Vietnam Building Code on
Fire safety of Buildings (pp. 3-8)
A/Prof. Dr. Cao Duy Tien, Dr. Nguyen Cao Duong, MEng. Hoang Anh
Giang
Vietnam Building Code on Fire safety of Buildings has been issued in
July 28, 2010 by the Circular No. 07/2010/TT-BXD of Ministry of Construction.
The Code has come into effect on September 17, 2010. Regulation by the Institute of Construction Science and Technology -
Ministry of Construction to coordinate with fire departments - the Ministry of
Public Security Editor. By this text, the editors of the codes would like
provide deeper explanation on the basic of development of this code to help
readers in understanding and applying the Code. Recommendation on the
application of the code is involved as well.
Modal response spectrum method and seismic analysis of
high-rise buildings under TCXDVN 375:2006 (pp. 9-19)
Dr. Nguyen Dai Minh
In TCXDVN 375:2006, the modal response spectrum method is not explained in
detail. Hence, this paper presents the background and seismic analysis of
high-rise buildings based on this method. The paper may help readers to obtain
key contents and basics of the modal response spectrum method. On the other
hand, due to the convenience and easy control when applying the lateral force
method in earthquake resistant analysis, in daily practice this method is
usually used in design of high-rise buildings. Results obtained from already
done analyses have shown that for buildings having more than 20 stories, the
base shear force calculated from the lateral force method may be greater than
that determined from the modal response spectrum method. This paper has also
presented the comparison of the calculations obtained from the lateral force
and modal response spectrum methods. Then, the improvement to the lateral force
method is recommended in seismic analysis of high-rise buildings in case of not
using (unwanted) the modal response spectrum method to save the times and the
labor forces of the structural engineers as well as easily checking/controlling
the output results of analysis.
Keywords: Earthquakes, high-rise buildings, the lateral force method of
analysis (static equivalent method), the improvement of the lateral force
method, the modal response spectrum method, TCXDVN 375:2006.
Torsion design of structural concrete members based on
ACI 318M-08 (pp.20-29)
Dr. Le Minh Long
Torsional moment develops in structural concrete members as a result of
asymmetrical loading or member geometry, or as a result of structural framing.
The article is deal with analysis of the behaviour of the structural concrete
members under torsion, with calculation procedure and the example according to
the US
code ACI 318M-08.
Keywords: torsion, reinforced coucrete structures, ACI 318
Design of the resilient bese isolation having type of
seismic damping bearing using nonlinear model of matersal (pp. 30 – 37)
Eng. Le Xuân Tung
This article deal with the interaction investigation of seismic base
isolation type damping rubber bearing seismic effects. Resilient base isolation
type has the cylindrical shape and the mechanical properties of these
materials is non-linear. The purpose of this investigation is to find out the
dimension of damping rubber in order to amplitude of oscillation attenuate in
the first seconds.
Keyword: non-linear dynamics; non-linear mechanical properties; damping rubber.
New concept in the design of structures for earthquake
resistance and the national code TCXDVN 375:2006 (pp. 38-42)
A/Prof. Dr. Le Ninh
Recognizing temporary defeats in the seismic prognosis, we have to change
the manner of seimic design of the structures. This paper presents the new
concept in the design of structures for earthquake resistance and the basic
principles of the national code TCXDVN 375:2006.
Evaluation activity of tectonical fault in area of
Vungang thermal power plant, Hatinh province (pp. 43-49)
Prof. Dr.Sc.Tran Manh Lieu, A/Prof.
Dr. Phan Trong Trinh, Eng. Trinh Viet Bac, Dr. Tran Dinh Ngoc
The data from geotechnical, geophysical investigation
for design had doubts about anomaly of geological - geophysical structure
existing in the area. It may be tectonic fault or fractural zone. This paper
behaves the geological - geophysical anomaly by: Seismic test; micro seismic
test ; geothermal test; survey geological, geomorphologic and tectonic;
geological, tectonic inspectional works; Satellite image Interpretation.
Results of investigation are presented :
1. There is no active fault as well as large fault and ancient fault cut
through the area intending Vung Ang 1 thermal power plant. The base in this
area are only cut by small fracture zone oriented 150-160o, 40-50o
and 70-80o.
2. In the area Vungang, far 10 km from south of plant,
there is one small active fault to be found. The fault can be possible develop
seismic with magnitude of 5.6 and can influence the buildings on the plant. The
another fault existing in the area Vung Ang such as Rao Nay fault (far 35 km
from the plant) do not influence on the buildings on the plant.
Method of inspection control of energy efficiency for
ventilating and air-conditioning systems (pp.50-54)
Eng. Ta Xuan Hoa, Eng.
Nguyen Tuan Anh
This paper presents orientation to set up the
method of inspection control of energy efficiency for ventilating and
air-conditioning systems of construction projects in Vietnam. Important contents and
steps of carrying out of process of inspection control include: some basic
requirements of inspection control, inspection condition and task, checking
content of energy efficiency of equipments, order of checking and
establishment, maintenance and usage of data of condition of equipments of
ventilating and air-conditioning systems
Assessment of in-situ compressive strength according
to EN 13791:2007 (pp. 55-61)
Dr. Hoang Minh Duc
In-situ compressive strength of concrete is a very
essential characteristic in assessment conformity of newly constructed
structures, evaluation of existing structures, ect... and can be assessed
according to TCXDVN 239:2006 in Vietnam or to EN 13791:2007 in Europe. Note
that, there are some differences in techniques for estimating in-situ
compressive strength of these standards. This article focuses on application of
EN 13791:2007 in details and compares EN 13791:2007 with TCXDVN 239:2006.
Discussion about collecting time of GPS signal in
establishing of the short surveying edge network by using GPS technology
(pp. 62-68)
Eng. Doan Van
Chinh, Eng.
Ngo Xuan The, MEng. Bui Thi Kien Trinh
With the application of GPS in construction surveying control network
has actually enhance economic efficiency, because it is not highly dependent on
season, weather, same time significantly reducing staff in human resources,
time out field measurements. however, at present in Vietnam there are other
provisions are not appropriate signal collection time outside the field. Based
on theoretical analysis and experimental results, the article content
demonstrated: In some specific conditions, duration of time collecting GPS
signal not significantly affect the position of the points in the network using
the short edge technology GPS. Some conclusions of this paper contribute to
further enhance the economic efficiency of GPS technology.

of facade structures (made from glass and aluminum) of high rise buildings in
Vietnam and in the world. Some existing problems and some important proposals
are presented in this paper.
