ABSTRACT
Displacement spectra for seismic non-linear static analysis of high-rise buildings in Vietnam

Displacement-based seismic design of structures, employing nonlinear pushover analysis, requires the appropriate and reliable determination or selection of displacement spectra for long range of period. The displacement spectra used for analysis directly affects the obtained outcomes. This paper presents discussions of researchers in the literature related to the response spectra used for displacement-based seismic design. An illustrated example, which compares analysis results based on response spectra according to TCVN 9386:2012 and ASCE 7-2010, is also given. It is shown that the response spectrum in TCVN 9386:2012 is not suitable for the purpose of estimating target displacement for high-rise buildings. A response spectrum according to ASCE 7 is recommended.
A reasonable design method for truss structure with give reliability coefficients according economic criteria

The design of structures according to given reliability and economic constraint is a matter of interest for designers, but it has not been extensively studied. This report presents a rational design approach according to reliability and based on economic criteria using a proposed optimal algorithm. The subject of research is steel truss of section L.
Effects of parameters to the reliability of elements of reinforced concrete frame structures

In fact, the parameters that characterize material properties, geometric dimensions, loads, acting on building structures and reinforced concrete structures are random variables that depend on external factors (environment, climate, technology, ...) and on subjective factors of human’s knowledge and perception. In current standards of many countries, the design of reinforced concrete structures only use the average value of those parameters, and substitute their errors with component coefficients. In this article, the author presents the effects due to error of each parameter of material strength (Rbn, Rsn), dimensions of cross sections (b, h, As) and loads effect (M, N) on the element reliability of reinforced concrete frame structures. Some remarks are made at the end of the article.
Research on the effect of axial force on plastic flow and plastic surface of I steel section

When researching the formation of plastic hinge of bar structure, the author just only dealed with rectangular cross sections subjected to M and N. However, it’s necessary to research abitrary sections. This paper presents a model and method to determine the plasticity characteristic of the abitrary section bar as well as draws the elastic limit line and the plastic curve of H shape steel section to determine the formation of plastic hinge of H shape steel section including effect of axial force. The author suggests the equation of plastic curve and compares it with other previous researches.
Influence of heat treatment regime on chemical indexes of Tung oil to manufacture traditional lacks

Thermal treatment of Tung oil (Wood oil) is an important stage in technical procedures of manufacturing traditional lacquer. The effect of traditional technology needs to be evaluated by scientific methods. First investigation showing the possibility of improving the quality of tung oil and results of investigation are presented in this paper.
Research on manufacturing high strength concrete by using fine sand and mineral admixtures of granulated blast-furnace slag and rice hush ash

The article analysed the influence factors to the workability and strength of concrete, from that selecting the suitable ratio between rice hush ash and slag. This ratio will be used to manufacture the gradings of fine sand concrete of high strength containing mineral additives. Research on their characteristics to evaluate the possibility of application in actual constructions is also presented.
The effect of parametric study on the behaviour of reinforced soil retaining walls

If the requirements for the backfill of retaining walls from design standards are followed, the cost of construction will be higher in comparison with the utilisation of available of backfill material at construction site. By using a finite element program - Plaxis 2D, the authors analysed the effect of backfill material and strength of ground on the behavior of retaining walls that are reinforced by geotextile materials. An investigation on the behavior of reinforced retaining walls placed on ground condition at Son Tra peninsula (Da Nang city) and the under permanent load. Results from investigation enable the analyses and prediction of the behaviour of reinforced retaining walls due to the effect of cohesive backfill and stiffness of foundation.
Establish program BSHH V1.0 for adjustment of combined geodesy-GPS data in grid coordinates system

The adjustment of control networks is a complex problem due to a large amount of data processing. With the development of advanced GPS technology, building a control network by combining data obtained from common surveying measurement and GPS data collection brings a higher accuracy and reduces time of established network, alternatively this takes full advantage and surmount the disadvantage of each technology. Therefore, it is an urgent issue that we have to build up efficient method automatic processing, calculation and adjust combined data include geodesy measurement and GPS data. From actual demand of production for automatic processing and adjusting this kind of survey network, the author uses Visual Basic to create an adjustment program for combined geodesy-GPS data in grid coordinates system.
Calculation of wind load effects on the curtain wall using glazing materials based on Vietnamese standard, American standard and Europe standard (pp.60-70)

In recent years, more and more buildings in Vietnam use glass as transparent glazing material in the building envelope. However, the climate in Vietnam poses a big challenge to this type of building construction. Vietnam is frequently and heavily affected by storms and strong seasonal winds. Therefore, wind load plays an important role in selecting the design of glazed curtain walls. Yet Vietnam has not had any standard or detailed guideline regarding to the design of curtain wall. As a result, many construction consultants face difficulties in designing, especially wind load calculations. This report presents wind load calculation problem for curtain wall using glazing materials and some of its related issues following Vietnamese standard, American standard and Europe standard.
