ABSTRACT
Experimental study on half-precast concrete connection under the action of seismic loading (part 3) (pp.3-12)
A/Prof. Dr. Tran Chung, A/Prof. Dr. Vo Van Thao, Dr. Le Minh Long, Dr. Do Tien Thinh, Eng. Ngo Manh Toan, MEng. Tran Ngoc Cuong, Eng. Nguyen Trung Kien
From 2009 to 2011, researchers from Vietnam Institute for Building Science and Technology (IBST) have been conducted an experimental study to investigate the mutual affect of connections used in half-precast concrete structure that being developed in Vietnam under the action of seismic loading. Because the content of this study is quite large as well as the limit of this Journal, this study will be published in three issues (1/2012, 2/2012, 3/2012). In this issue, experiment results, conclusions and recommendations are presented.
Dynamic progressive collapse of multi-storey monolithic RC frames (pp.13-16)
Dr. Cao Duy Khoi
Under specific impacts such as progressive collapse, dynamic effects are believed to have the significant influence on the structure. However, such influence has not been studied clearly and in detail for muilti-storey frames. The research objective of this paper is that in the cast-in-situ reinforced concrete multi-storey frames where a first floor column instantaneously looses the loading capacity. For evaluation of the dynamic effects, dynamic load factor (Kdv) is recommended to be determine by linear static and linear dynamic analyses for frames with various numbers of floors.
Stress-strain state of the foundation base under the effect of earthquake (pp.17-23)
Dr. Tran Huy Tan
This article present evaluating stress-strain state of the foundation - base with calculate their interaction of them under the effect of earthquake load. This is one of the important problems when building in the earthquake zone. Under the effects of earthquake, in the ground complex stress-strain states appear. Depending on the magnitude of earthquakes, natural vibration frequency, geological structures and laying of soil strata that it can generate the limit equilibrium areas with many sizes and types. These areas can lead to residual deformation or instability for the foudation and the structure.
Elastic Response Spectra and Design Spectra for buildings under seismic actions. – I. Elastic Response Spectra (pp. 24-34)
Dr. Phung Ngoc Dung, MEng. Dao Van Cuong, Eng. Tran Van Long
The seismic design code of VietNam, TCXDVN 375:2006 [1], has been published since 2006. However, there are some issues not clearly explained to date. With attempts to give some basic concepts of designing structures under seismic actions to the engineers or designers, a lot of studies on dynamics of structures, especially under excitations of earthquakes, have been revised. This paper will present one of these revisions: how to construct an elastic response spectrum and elastic design response spectra.
Experimental studies on interior beam-column joints subjected to earthquake loadings (pp.35-40)
Dr. Tran Cao Thanh Ngoc
Two full-scale reinforced concrete interior beam-column joints with non-seismic detailing and limited seismic detailing were designed and tested to investigate the seismic behavior of the joints. In this first part of a three-part paper, experimental results of tests on the two joints under quasistatic cyclic loading simulated earthquake actions are presented. The variable in the test specimens were the amount of joint transverse reinforcement and the lap splice details for column and beam reinforcement. The as-built specimen failed at a drift ratio of 2.0%, while the modified specimen reached a higher drift ratio level. It was demonstrated that even limited seismic detailing could improve the seismic behavior of the joints. The beams and columns remained essentially undamaged while shear failure formed in the joints.
The sudy made use of  high strength concrete using gap-graded aggregate with fine sand (pp. 41-47)
MEng. Ngo Van Toan
Vietnam has an abundant supply of coarse sand for use in concrete but due to the rapid increase of the construction industry and the sustainable construction policy, interest in fine sand has increased. This paper presents some results of a study on high strength concrete using gap-graded aggregate with fine sand.
Difference between the UTM plane rectangular coordinates system and local topocentric coordinate system (48-52)
NCS. Le Van Hung
In fact, the adjustment of network computing is done entirely on the surface of the ellipsoid then in order to be used in construction surveying, their coordinates are transferred to the local topocentric coordinate system and the UTM plane rectangular coordinates. Difference survey between plane rectangular coordinates system UTM and plane rectangular local topocentric coordinate system in construction surveying is a matter of note.
Investigation of the application possibility of leica viva ts15 electronic total station and goca software in automatic deformation monitoring of fender of the high-rise building (pp. 53-61)
MEng. Tran Ngoc Dong, Eng. Diem Cong Huy
The paper mentions the possibility of application of automatic monitoring system including Leica viva TS15 electronic total station (TDĐT) and Goca software in automatic deformation monitoring of the fender of high-rise building in the construction process of foundation and basement floor.
