ABSTRACT
Some assessments of the normative system - standard on earthquakes and earthquake resistance of homes and buildings in Vietnam today (pp. 3-10)
A/Prof.Dr.Nguyen Xuan Chinh, Dr. Trinh Viet Cuong, Dr. Nguyen Đai Minh, Dr. Vu Thi Ngoc Van
The article presents some general information about the impact of earthquakes in the world and in Vietnam, technical documentation system of Vietnam is in the field of earthquake resistant, earthquake resistant design situation and the ability of earthquake resistant buildings, proposed some criteria to assess the severity of home and work and some conclusions - recommendations for management of state.
Establishing the formulations of static and dynamic wind loads for the draft of TCVN 2737:2011 (pp. 11-13)
A/Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vo Thong
On compiling TCVN 2737:1995, part of the building code content that is different to original code СНиП 2.01.07-85 is modified. One of changes is that wind pressure is based on the basic wind speed of 3 seconds and a return period of 20 years. The formulations specified in СНиП 2.01.07-85 which is based on the basic wind speed of 10 minutes and a 5-year return period is used. The modification could be inconsistent with the calculation of wind load. This paper presents a method of establishing the formulations of static and dynamic wind loads for the draft of TCVN 2737:2011 based on available wind database in consistent with the formulations specified in СНиП 2.01.07-85* 2009.
Effective length factor of column in steel frames with semi-rigid connections (pp.14-22)
Dr. Vu Quoc Anh, Eng. Chu Thi Hoang Anh
The article introduces the simple modifications of the alignment chart when engineers calculate the effective length of steel frames with semi-rigid conections based on US Code of Standard Practice for Steel Buildings and Bridges. Consider the modifications factor with different boundary conditions of beams and columns in the braced and unbraced frames. In the article also gives some examples for calculation of effective length factor for column in semi-rigid steel frame .
Use the device to adjust the volume to limit the horizontal displacement of the structure (pp.23-31)
MEng. Phung Ngoc Dung
For structures having great heights subjected to lateral forces like earthquakes or winds, limiting the lateral deformations to satisfy serviceability states sometimes put difficulties for structural engineers. The regular way to deal with that is to choose great cross-sectional dimensions or materials with high strength. However, this usually leads to high costs and obstacles in building the structures. This paper will introduce another method to reduce the lateral deformations of a chimey subjected to wind by using Tuned Mass Damper.
Influence of concrete strength and steel fiber type on efficiency using steel fiber in steel fiber reinforced concrete (pp.32-36)
Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Eng. Nguyen Huyen Thi
Using steel fibers in concrete (steel fiber feinforced concrete - SFRC) will increase effectively the capacity flexural tensile strength of concrete. However, to use steel fibers effectively it will depend on many factors, cylinder influence of concrete strength and type of steel fiber (the aspect ratio length/diameter resulting) resulting in better very large on flexural tensile strength of concrete. This paper presents influence of ioncrete concrete strength and steel fiber type on efficiency using steel fiber in steel fiber reinforced concrete in refusal Concrete Grade to 300 for 800 (30-80 MPa), by adding steel fibers the effect when used in Fiber Reinforced Concrete.
Quality assessment of coating paint to protect from corosion for steel structures in Vietnam marine environment (pp.37-40)
Dr. Nguyen Nam Thang, Dr. Nguyen Manh Hong, Eng. Phan Van Chuong
In the recent years, there are many construction projects built on offshore and coastal lines to serve for national objectives of developing strongly coastal zone’s economy. Among these projects, steel structures are largely used. Even steel structures have advantages of high strength, small size requirements and short construction periods against reinforced concrete structures, but anti-corrosion application for steel structures in coastal environment is a complicated matter to ensure reaching design lifespan. In the current practice of Vietnam, corrosion status caused failure of steel structure projects is serious with quite high corrosion speed. Coating paint is one of effective methods that is commonly selected to protect for steel structures on marine areas. However, the quality of coating paint systems protected for steel structures on marine environment should be considered carefully before application selection. This paper presents some initial assessments for quality of some coating paint types commonly applied to protect for steel structures on marine areas.
Establishment of technical specifications for thin bed mortar for AAC masonry (pp.41-45)
MEng. Nguyen Tien Thanh, Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc
In the past few years, beside autoclaved aerated concrete products (AAC), thin bed mortar for AAC masonry has been recently applied to buildings in Viet Nam. Up to now, however, there are no code or standard describing technical for these products issued. This makes manufacturers, construction organizations and supervisors confusing and difficult in execution. This article introduces detailed analysis and proposal for technical specification of thin bed mortar for AAC block-work on the basis of foreign codes and standards and actual building status in Viet Nam.
Status tilt, settlement of the civil works in Hanoi and some recommendations about preventive measures (pp.46-49)
Dr. Pham Quyet Thang, Dr. Nguyen Giang Nam, MEng. Nguyen Ngoc Thuyet, Dr. Trinh Viet Cuong
This paper presents the damage of buildings caused by settlement and differential settlement. The analyses of the reasons and measures to prevent the buildings from damaging are presented.
Method of transform GPS elevation system to the building elevation system (pp.50-54)
MEng. Ngo Xuan The, MEng. Do Nhu Tung
In the current in Vietnam, the elevation is using common in survey, design and construction, that are use the normally elevation system "Hγ", with transmission method by geometric leveling. Meanwhile the construction control points established by GPS technology for results is the coordinates and altitude in the geodetic coordinate system (B, L, H) or WGS-84 (X, Y, Z). When construction of bridges, tunnels through mountains, the hydropower projects…need to transmit high through difficult terrain such as rivers, mountain peaks, with the elevation transformation by GPS technology will allow the workload reduction with the geometric leveling. But to solve the problems is the transfer of GPS elevation systems to the elevation of construction with precision required to ensure control of the grid in construction works. The article presents the method for transformation GPS elevation to construction elevation with mention the effects of enlightens wire deviation.
The study used curve predicted relationship T-Z load-settlement of the bored pile in the Hanoi area (pp.55-61)
Eng. Hoang Thanh Hai
In recent years, with the application of the strain gages to measuring deformation along the piles in static load test help to get more data from this test, so that we can determine the load distribution along the depth of the pile displacement of pile bottom, displacement along the pile. From these results, in addition to determine the distribution of side friction, the unit friction, pile resistance, we can build the curve between displacement/diameter piles and side friction/maximum of side (curve T-Z). This article presents methods of construction T-Z curve, and combined with the finite element method to predict the load-settlement system of the pile in the Hanoi area.
