ABSTRACT

Study on seismic performance of new precast post-tensioned beam-column connection (part 2) (pp.3-11)

Dr. Do Tien Thinh, A/Prof. Dr. Kusunoki Koichi, Prof.Tasai Akira

This paper presents experimental results of three precast prestressed concrete beam-column connection specimens which were tested at Structural Laboratory of Yokohama National University, Japan. The aim of the experiment is to prove seismic behavior of this type of connection. The experimental results show that the beam-column connection without shear key has large slip and residual deformation. The beam-column connections with shear key have good seismic behavior with small residual deformation, minor damage of beam and column, and nearly no slip between beam and column.

Keywords: shear key, unbonded presstressed, precast concrete, beam-column connection.

Nonlinear analysis of deep RC beams with openings (pp.12-18)

Dr.Chu Thi Binh

This paper presents the results of structural analysis of reinforced concrete deep beams with openings. The investigation parameter is the location of opening. Nonlinear structural analysis computer code SAFIR is used in simulation. Verifying works have been done for models using SAFIR code. Results from parametric studies show that when the location of the opening is far from the load path, the load resistance of the beam, with opening is similar to that of the solid beam.

The experiment study on the possibility of reduced explosion pressure on structureembedded in the soil environment by elastomer (pp.19-26)

Dr. Le Anh Tuan, MEng. Nguyen Cong Nghi, MEng. Nguyen Duc Tuan

This paper presents experimental research on the energy absorption, dissipation possibility of elastomer materials. The results of the explosion tests in the soil showed that the elastic material significantly reduced the maximum value of the explosive wave value, deforming the pressure graph over time, extending the time the explosion pressure reached the maximum value and reducing the momentum of compression wave at the measurement point.

Keywords: explosive wave, possibility of elastomer materials, absorption, dissipation.

Deflection Prediction of RC beams subjected to long-term loads (pp.27-31)

Dr. Dang Vu Hiep

The method of deflection prediction for RC beams taking into account creep effects in conjunction with cracks of concrete based on Eurocode 2 (EC2) is used. The computed results are compared to results analyzed from LIRA-SAPR 2013 software as well as several test data reported in the literature [3, 5, 6]. The results show that the total deflection using the Eurocode 2 produces somewhat safe predictions; on the other hand, the prediction using LIRA-SAPR 2013 software produces lack consistency against test data.

Keywords: creep, reinforced concrete beams, cracks, deflection.

Design of circular columns by means of interaction diagram (pp.32-36)

Dr. Pham Phu Tinh

This paper presents the algorithm to construct the strength interaction diagrams to provide aids in practical design of circular column under axial load and uniaxial bending, according to TCVN 5574:2012.

Keywords: Circular columns, Interaction diagram.

Application of inplace dune sand in cement concrete for road pavement in Phu Quoc island (pp. 37-43)

Dr. Hoàng Minh Duc, Eng. Nguyen Kim Thinh

Rational use of local materials in development of the infrastructure in remoted area, including island can provide significal technico-economic effects. Dune sand in Phu Quoc island is a fine sand, of which the technical properties, except grading, satisfy the standard requirements for concrete product. This paper presents the results of research on the influence of cement to water ratio and mortar excessive coefficient to the properties of concrete with dune sand. In the results, the proportions were selected for concretes with compressive strength up to 40 MPa meeting the requirements for road pavement in the island and having material cost reduction from 11% to 16% in comparision with concrete using river sand.

Keywords: concrete, dune sand, road pavement, strength.

Assesment of solar energy radiation reducing effect of glass window with window film to save energy for cooling in Vietnam buildings (pp.44-49)

MEng. Nguyen Son Lam

This paper presents laboratory test results to assess solar energy radiation reducing effect of glass window with window film. These laboratory tests were conducted within the framework of State Level Project: “Research and Application of thermal performance renovation technology on the existing urban building envelope to increase energy efficiency performance in Vietnam, Code BĐKH 52”. These tests were conducted to measure total energy radiation transmitted through window glass sample itself and window glass samples with window film in the same condition. The comparison of total energy radiation transmitted through two type of test samples shows solar energy radiation reducing effect between window glass with film and window glass itself installed in Vietnam Buildings.

Design of reinforced concrete structures for the crack formation and crack width estimation in accordance with TCVN 5574-2012 and sp 63.13330-2012 (pp.50-56)

Dr. Nguyen Van Nghi, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Ba

This paper deals with the design of reinforced concrete structures for the crack formation and crack width estimation in accordance with Vietnamese Standard TCVN 5574-2012 and Russian standard SP 63.13330-2012. Estimations of flexural crack widths for beam and slab based on both standards have shown that the cracking moment estimated based on SP 63.13330-2012 is smaller than that based on TCVN 5574-2012, i.e the cracks would appear earlier when estimated based on the Russian standard, and the crack widths of beam and slab estimated based on SP 63.13330-2012 are also bigger than estimated based on TCVN 5574-2012. This paper also shows that the current requirements on the allowable crack width of reinforced concrete structures in marine environment stipulated in Vietnamese standards are more stringent than required by some developed countries and it has big impact on the steel content of RC structures in marine area designed based on Vietnamese standards.
