ABSTRACT
Numerical properties of integration methods for nonlinear time-history analyses in SAP2000 (Part 2), pp. 3-12
MEng. TRAN NGOC CUONG
In Part 1, this paper presented the numerical characteristics of five time-history nonlinear analysis methods which are integrated in the software SAP2000. In this Part 2, the paper will explain some related terms and parameters are used when analyzing, and some examples are also given to provide more clarifications of the methods described in Part 1.
Influence of cracks to response of reinforced concrete frame subjected to seismic load, pp. 13-17
MEng. VO MANH TUNG, A/Prof.Dr. NGUYEN LE NINH
The paper refers to the findings of several authors of the stiffness of the reinforced concrete structure beyond elastic limit and the influence on earthquake response of frame. The example also showed the difference in seismic response of reinforced concrete frame when the stiffness of structural components varies according to different design criteria and some problem to be attended in the design .
Reliability assessment of the steel frame with semi-rigid joints with uncertain interval paramaters, pp. 18-25
Dr. LE CONG DUY, Eng. VO XUAN TAN
In this paper, the authors apply the formulation which is proposed to assess the reliability of the steel frame with semi-rigid restrains under static loads for the case that uncertain input parameters are interval numbers such as: stiffness of restrains between beam and column, static loads and character of material.
Analysis of deformation and assesement of actual flexural rigidity of simply supported beam with variable flexural rigidity, pp. 26-32
Dr. NGUYEN HUU HUNG, Eng. NGUYEN VAN DUONG
In the testing of bridges, load testing often leads to analysis of bending deformation (deflection, rotation angle) of beams subjected to concentrated load. In the calculations, constant flexural rigidity (EI) or variable flexural rigidity (EI) according to the prescribed rules are normally used. However, the actual flexural rigidity of each segments in the span are not equal to the assumptions in the calculation (with a simply supported beam bridge it is the influence of cross beam, with continuous girder bridge they are the effect of the strengthening position and the implicit damage in the structural span ...). To clarify this problem, the paper established formulas of deflection and rotation of simply supported beam by analytical method for the case of the beam having multi-flexural rigidity. Through examples of calculation for a specific case, the proposed equations were checked and compared to the result of analysis by finite element method, showing that the highest difference is 1.8%. On that basis, and from the actual deflection result of the assumed beam, the paper gives method of assessment of actual flexural rigidity of this beam.
Fuzzy natural frequencies of 2-D steel frame structures with rigidity of connections and mass having triangular fuzzy numbers, pp. 33-42
MEng. TRAN THANH VIET, A/ Prof, Dr. VU QUOC ANH, Prof, Dr. LE XUAN HUYNH
This paper concerns on algorithms for determining the natural frequencies of plane steel frame structures with rigidity of beam – column and column – base connections modeled as triangular fuzzy numbers. The determistic finite element method – elastic connection and Response Surface Method (RSM) in mathematical statistic are applied for problems with symmetric triangular fuzzy numbers. The α – level opitimization using the Differential Evolution (DE) involves integrated finite element modelling is proposed to apply for problems with triangular fuzzy numbers. The merit of the proposed methodologies is demonstrated through some example problems which apply for the thirteen – storey, three – bay..
Effectiveness of some paint protection corrosion resistance for reinforcement in concrete when using sea water, pp.43-47
MEng. PHAN VAN CHUONG
This paper presents the  research rusult on the anti-corrosion capacity of the typical coating materials. The studies were performed in the laboratory with sea water content with 5% NaCl concentrations used for concrete mix.
Preliminary results of waterproofing methods in the coral areas by coral– cement mixture, pp. 48-51
MEng. NGUYEN QUY DAT
This article presents the geological characteristics of the coral islands ground, thereby recommending the use of coral – cement mixture as a waterproofing method on the basis of sucessful waterproofing tests in the laboratory. The findings in this article are initial contribution to the clarification of the variation of permeability of coral ground n Vietnam, and providing practical alternatives for selecting a proper waterproofing method when building in the coral environment.
Experimental study on the relationship between  pumping parameters of fresh concrete and cement paste volume within time, pp.52-59
Dr. NGUYEN THE DUONG, MEng. VU VAN NHAN, MEng. TRAN KIM NHAT
This paper presents experimental results on the measurement of pumping parameters of some fresh concretes, including slump, frictional contact between concrete and steel pipe. These parameters are evaluated within time and cement paste ratios. It is shown that the cement paste volume and time have great influence to the workability and pumpability capacity of concrete. The presence of admixture seems to have additional effect on the interface yield stress of fresh concrete at 60 min. It is shown also that the measurement of frictional parameters provides important additional information for the determination of pumpapility of fresh concrete.
Using simplified hyperbolic model to study the behavior of single pile under vertical load, pp. 60-66
MEng. TRUONG HONG MINH, Dr. NGUYEN THE DUONG
This paper presents the simplified Hyperbolic model that was proposed by Qian-qing Zhang for investigating the behavior of an axially loaded pile in a single-layered soil. The authors have then expanded its application for the case of displacement piles in multi-layered soils. A program has been written by the authors, using Python programming language, for analysing the relationship between the applied load and the displacement of pile head. From results of analysis, some conclusions and recomendations are issued for the utilisation of this model to predict the settlement of single piles.
